Anticipated to maintain consistency with the current model, the 5-door Mahindra Thar is expected to offer the same engine choices. Enthusiasts can select from two engines – a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. The robust turbo-diesel engine boasts a peak power output of 130 hp coupled with a formidable torque of 320 Nm. Meanwhile, the dynamic turbo-petrol engine delivers 150 hp and an equally impressive 320 Nm of torque. Both engine options are compatible with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, featuring a versatile low-range transfer case. A notable feature is the inclusion of a specialized center differential that mechanically locks, enabling a seamless transition into a 4×4 arrangement. What We Think

The expanding landscape of the niche off-roading segment is undeniably captivating. The surge in enthusiasts embracing off-road adventures has spurred a remarkable demand for rugged vehicles like the Mahindra Thar, Force Gurkha, and Maruti Jimny. Historically, the Thar has reigned supreme in this realm, captivating enthusiasts since its inception. Nevertheless, the practicality quandary in terms of cabin space persisted. The anticipation of the impending 5-door version promises to address this concern. While it may retain its 4-seater configuration, the extended wheelbase is poised to offer abundant room for the second row and an ample luggage compartment. The evolution of the upcoming Thar beckons our attention as we await its impact on the off-roading scene.
