Ioniq 7 production will be based on the Hyundai Seven Concept, which will make its debut at the 2021 Los Angeles Motor Show. The Seven’s structure is based on a standard SUV design, but its boxy silhouette and futuristic aesthetic set it apart.

The electric SUV’s front bumper is adorned with a sleek LED DRL strip. Behind the hood of the car, there is a massive grille area that lights up when the car is turned on. Four LED headlights are mounted vertically in each corner of the bumper’s chrome skid plate. The tall and erect stance of the huge electric SUV belies its massive proportions.

Each side has a similar row of windows, and the roof has a slight backslope. Strong visual cues are provided by the SUV’s squared-off wheel wells and five-spoked alloy wheels. Doors and windows without column supports are an interesting feature on the sides. The back is as unique as the front. This car is one of a kind thanks to its transparent trunk lid and rear Parametric Pixel lighting.

Simon Loasby, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group’s Style Group, spoke with Car And Driver in November 2021 about the inspiration behind the Seven concept. He explains that the Seven’s Parametric Pixel Lights will be adapted for usage on the Ioniq 7, but that in the final production model of the SUV, a flat, translucent cover will be placed over the lights to help with everyday use by keeping out dust and snow. As an added note, he claims that the all-glass trunk lid seen on the Seven Concept will not be included in the final version.

The Seven Concept’s interior is styled like a lounge, complete with swivelling chairs, a bench, and a compartment concealing the driver’s seat. Inside, the most eye-catching feature is the panoramic OLED Vision Roof Display, which can be set to display whatever the passengers want. Notable features include a 27-inch screen, an air filtration system similar to that used in aeroplanes, and an abundance of eco-friendly materials like bamboo wood, mineral plaster, bio-resin, and more. The final product is likely to be a three-row electric Vehicle that can accommodate seven passengers in luxurious comfort.

According to Car and Driver’s sources, the sole interior element taken directly from the idea will be the doors’ distinctive cutouts, which evoke a capsule. While some of the concept car’s specifics may not make it into the final product, Hyundai Motor Group CEO Jose Munez assured Motor Trend that the spirit of the vehicle would be preserved.

Many hope that the final production model of the Hyundai Ioniq 7 electric SUV will have the following features, which would be firsts in their market sector.

Level 3 autonomous driving system

Hyundai’s “Autonomous Driving Technological Roadmap” claims that the company’s “Highway Driving Pilot,” with Level 3 hands-free autonomy, would be released this year. But, “the automobile is able to manage safety functions under particular conditions,” thus the driver is still expected to take over when prompted. The Ioniq 7 will eventually be able to benefit from this upgrade.

Use of high-tech and recycled materials

Due to the high-end nature of the Ioniq 7, Hyundai may be able to use high-tech materials for its paintwork and trimmings, which will have more than just cosmetic benefits. Hyundai’s Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke told Autocar that the company is developing such technology, and that it might be operational by the decade’s middle. Seats, armrests, flooring, and doors are only some of the interior automobile pieces that can be made from eco-friendly recycled plastics, plant-based (bio PET) yarns and natural wool yarns, bio paint with plant extracts, and faux leather with plant extracts.

Advanced infotainment system

The Hyundai Ioniq 7 is just one of the upcoming cars from HMG that will include the new ‘NVIDIA DRIVE’ connected car platform in its infotainment systems when they are released in 2022. The NVIDIA DRIVE can streamline and improve the user experience by combining music, navigation, and connected car services, and it can do so in tandem with Hyundai’s own connected car operation system (ccOS) and a digital cockpit.

The ccOS will be driven by NVIDIA’s software frameworks, creating a state-of-the-art environment. As if that weren’t enough, the Ioniq 7 won’t even be getting the Ioniq 5’s optional Bluelink linked car system. The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) is reportedly planning to consolidate the connected car services provided by its three brand divisions (Hyundai Bluelink, Kia Uvo, and Genesis Connected), as reported by the Maeil Economic Daily on January 17, 2022. Nevertheless, at this time, we do not have a projected completion date for this effort.

Meanwhile, Pulse News reported on January 18th, 2022, that connected car features had become a deciding element in people’s auto-buying decisions, and that HMG would soon debut its integrated linked car service. Now accessible in the United States, Canada, China, India, Russia, Europe, and Korea, HMG plans to expand its linked vehicle service this year in an effort to attain its goal of 10 million customers worldwide.

Locking and unlocking doors, starting the engine from a distance, turning on the air conditioner or heater ahead of time, setting a geofence, and much more are all possible with the help of an app on a smartphone. It remains to be seen what HMG does with the interplay of these three platforms.

The “vision roof” panoramic sunroof may soon be replaced by a single massive glass panel without any cross member at all in future Hyundai vehicles. The Seven Concept’s large roof-mounted display was scrapped for production.

Hyundai has publicly committed to manufacturing electric vehicles in the USA. The corporation plans to have put USD 7.4 billion into improving the infrastructure used to manufacture electric vehicles by 2025. As things stand, the Hyundai plant in Montgomery, Alabama will serve as the nerve centre for Hyundai’s electric vehicles in the United States. It’s possible that the Ioniq 5 or Ioniq 6 will be the first mass-produced fully electric vehicle, with the Ioniq 7 following soon after.
