Reset and Chill Campers, a UK-based outfitter, stands out as an excellent choice for Europeans seeking top-quality van conversions. Their latest creation, the Onyx van conversion, is a testament to their commitment to using quality materials, incorporating off-grid features, and paying meticulous attention to detail.
The Onyx, described as an alpine-inspired retreat on wheels, showcases a multifunctional layout and an array of residential-style features. These elements add both practicality and a warm, inviting ambiance to the compact living space, proving that being small doesn’t mean sacrificing style or comfort.

Founded by Thomas James, an outdoors enthusiast, van life aficionado, and experienced designer, Reset, and Chill Campers draw on his background in renovating high-end apartments and chalets in the French Alps. This experience has translated seamlessly into their van conversion projects.
The Onyx conversion is based on a fully-insulated Volkswagen Crafter LWB, measuring 14 feet (4.3 meters) in length. Its modern interior features a sophisticated black and gray color palette, complemented by the outfitter’s signature brushed and baked effect for the wall and ceiling finish.
While the exterior of the Onyx maintains an unassuming appearance, with a notable mountain forest decal toward the rear, it’s the interior design and functionality that truly impress. The layout, though deceptively compact at first glance, includes all the essentials for comfortable living: a sleeping/lounging area with a pull-out near a king-size bed, a kitchen, a dinette, a child’s bunk bed, and even a shower and toilet. To add to its versatility, the design incorporates a built-in dog crate and a storage garage for outdoor equipment at the rear.
In an unconventional approach, the shower stall is the first thing you see upon opening the side door of the Onyx. The curved footprint allows easy movement, and the gloss gray/white marble-effect shower walls offer a contemporary touch. Privacy is ensured by a dark sliding screen door.
Moving past the shower, you enter an inviting living space, with the kitchen on the left and the dining area on the right. The kitchen’s charm lies in its matte black cabinets with tan leather handles, butcher block-style wooden countertop, and black tile backsplash. Despite its compact size, it’s both elegant and functional, equipped with a two-burner propane cooktop, a small farmhouse sink, and a discreet 12-volt refrigerator.

Above, black overhead cabinets offer storage space for kitchen essentials or personal belongings, extending over the sleeping area. The dinette accommodates two and features a small adjustable table and two upholstered benches, with one serving a dual function as an extra bunk bed for a child if needed.
The bedroom at the rear features a raised bed platform with a pull-out section, effectively creating a near king-size bed for two adults. During the day, it serves as a day bed, and at night, simply extend the wooden slats and add extra cushions for a comfortable sleeping area. The lighting system adds to the ambiance, with recessed ceiling lights and two wooden sconce wall lights, individually switchable.
The raised bed platform cleverly conceals a generous garage area accessible through the rear double doors. This specific build, houses a built-in dog crate, leaving ample space for storage.
The Onyx van conversion is fully equipped for off-grid living, featuring a hot water boiler, a night diesel heating system, solar panels on the roof, a substantial battery bank, and a portable toilet that can be stowed inside the shower stall.
While pricing details for this finely crafted van conversion are not disclosed, Reset and Chill Campers can provide further information upon inquiry. Keep in mind that the company does not ship to the United States, but its stylish campers can certainly serve as a source of inspiration for many aspiring van lifers.
