Royal Enfield has started manufacturing its highly anticipated next-gen Himalayan 450 adventure tourer at its Chennai facility. The new middleweight ADV is slated for launch on November 1st, 2023.
Compared to the current 411cc Himalayan, the 450 flaunts a leaner profile with changes like a raised front fender, compact exhaust and sculpted fuel tank. Dual-purpose capabilities come from 21-inch front / 17-inch rear spoke wheels and 220mm ground clearance.
At the core is an expected 450cc liquid-cooled engine generating around 35hp and 40Nm torque, a significant boost from the 24hp 411cc motor. This promises more powerful performance on highways and extreme off-road terrain.
Hardware upgrades include USD front forks, dual-channel ABS unit and an all-LED lighting system – all firsts for a Himalayan. The new model also gets a large single pod instrument cluster with an updated layout.
With production underway, Royal Enfield eyes enhancing the Himalayan’s popularity among adventure touring enthusiasts. Affordable pricing around ₹2.2 lakhs is expected. The added power and improved dynamics should bolster the Himalayan 450’s credentials as a capable long-distance dual-sport motorcycle.
This new-generation ADV will compete with rivals like the KTM 390 Adventure at a lower price point. While expanding choice in the middleweight adventure category, the upcoming Himalayan 450 underscores Royal Enfield’s focus on building engaging and accessible premium motorcycles.
