Which Car is King of Tata in India

User Review on Tata Harrier [2019-2023] XZ Dual Tone [2019-2020]

I purchased the top-end XZ Dual Tone variant of the Tata Harrier back in 2019 and have driven over 50,000 km in it so far. Here are my observations of living with the Harrier over the last 3 years:

Looks and Comfort:

With its IMPACT 2.0 design, the Harrier is easily one of the most striking-looking SUVs on the road. The dual-tone paint scheme I opted for further accentuates the curved lines and beefy proportions. The cabin space is expansive thanks to the 2747 mm wheelbase, and the front seats are some of the most comfortable I’ve experienced in an SUV.

Performance:

The 2.0L Fiat-sourced diesel engine puts out 170 PS and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox in my variant. Performance is adequate for regular driving but lacks punch for enthusiastic driving. The gearbox is smooth-shifting but I miss the convenience of an automatic. Fuel economy with a light foot is around 12-14 km/l.

Ride and Handling:

Ride quality over bad roads and undulations is excellent thanks to the Land Rover-derived dual-path suspension and long travel. Body roll is present but well-controlled. The steering has decent feel and weight making the Harrier stable and planted on highways. It handles impressively for its size and height.

Features:

I opted for the fully-loaded XZ variant which came equipped with auto climate control, a nice touchscreen infotainment system, auto headlamps, push button start, and more. However, I miss some active safety features like blind spot monitoring which would’ve made driving easier.

Aftersales Service:

I have had a largely positive experience with Tata service centers so far. Scheduled maintenance is done properly and the staff is courteous. However, some spare parts take time to procure.

Overall:

The Harrier checks many of the right boxes as a comfortable and capable premium SUV. It stands out with its unique design and brilliant ride quality. While the engine and gearbox could be more refined, and some modern features absent, the Harrier offers great value for its combination of looks, presence, and real-world usability. I recommend it to buyers looking for something that stands out from the crowd.
