Most drivers know they need to winterize their cars. However, when the weather warms up, they don’t think about preparing it for spring. The move from cold temperatures to warm can damage the vehicle by expanding and contracting various materials. Being proactive helps to detect problems early so they can be repaired before they escalate.
Damage is often hidden, and drivers don’t know they have an issue until their car breaks down. Interior Inspection

Suspension

The driver puts their full weight on the front of the vehicle by placing their palms on the hood of the car and pressing down as hard as they can. Count the bounces of the car after releasing the hands. One good bounce should restore the vehicle to its original position. Belts and Hoses
Open the hood to inspect visible belts and hoses. Squeeze hoses between the thumb and finger to ensure they feel firm and pliant. Mushy, cracked, or extremely soft hoses should be replaced to prevent a breakdown. When examining belts, look for cracks, fraying, or glazing of the sides. Older belts are more brittle, so they will easily crack and tear. Aging belts should be replaced before they fail.
Fluid Levels
Check all fluid levels and replace any as needed. Most reservoirs are marked to show the correct fill level. Next, check the oil and ensure it remains clean and topped off. Some vehicles allow owners to check the transmission fluid. Ask the mechanic how to do so correctly. Before checking the fluids, learn which ones should be checked with a cold engine and which readings are more accurate when the engine is warm.
Drivers should take additional steps to prepare their vehicles for spring. The changing seasons are an excellent time to check tire pressure and test the battery. Change air filters in the car to remove any debris and take the vehicle for a test drive. If anything seems off, schedule an inspection with a trained mechanic. One can never be too safe when it comes to their car.
