Accident at University of Maryland Leaves 27 People Injured

College Park, MD – A university bus crash injured 27 people near the University of Maryland campus on Wednesday morning.

The collision occurred around 10:20am along University Boulevard in College Park, just north of the UMD campus, according to officials.

A University of Maryland commuter bus struck a light pole, causing minor injuries to the 27 occupants. The Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department reported all injuries were non-life threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police have closed southbound Route 1 near the scene as they examine the incident.

In a statement, UMD spokesperson Rebecca Aloisi said the university is focused on supporting those affected and gathering more details. The school confirmed awareness of the collision involving the UMD bus.

While an alarming scene, authorities have confirmed no serious injuries resulted from the bus striking the light pole. The closure along University Boulevard will likely cause traffic delays near campus as police reconstruct the accident.
